Meet & Greet Welcome 5:00-5:30pm
Dunham Technique Class 5:30-7:15pm
Discover the transformative power of Dunham Technique, an Afro-Modern dance practice that nurtures the dancer holistically, working from the inside out. Katherine Dunham renowned American dancer, choreographer, anthropologist, and social activist—created a technique that fuses African, Caribbean, and African American movement with ballet and modern dance, creating a dynamic and influential movement language. Often called the "Matriarch of Black dance," Dunham revolutionized the dance world by pioneering this fusion and founding the first self-supporting Black dance company in the U.S.
Join Nycole Ray, a certified Dunham Technique Instructor, for an evening exploring this vibrant dance form. Known for its physicality, Dunham Technique challenges dancers with spinal twists, undulations, and polyrhythmic movements that demand strength, precision, and a deep connection to the body.
Class is 90-105 minutes, providing ample time to explore this rich and empowering dance form. Open to all dancers ages 13+ of intermediate and advanced level.
