The first of our seasonal Rides to the Seaside
Leaving from Otford station at 9.20am. Train goes from Crofton Park and Catford at 8.37 and 8.40, arriving Otford at 9.18
Long hard ride that will take all day, but worth it for the lovely countryside and fish and chips by the sea.
Hilly ride, around 60 miles with a stop for lunch just past the halfway point.
We do this at a slow, sociable pace so, with the lunch stop, and time for other short roadside breaks takes from 7 to 8 hours. Thats anticipating an average speed of 10mph/16kph to 11mph/18kph which may sound slow but does require much faster riding along the flatter sections to compensate for the average speed dropping considerably on the hills (especially where I’m concerned: 2mph on the steeper climbs is my speed!). And we do need to get to Hastings before dark! Hopefully by 6pm. So do be realistic about your average pace if you want to come along and enjoy the ride to the full.
I’ll be booking a ticket for the 8.21pm train back to London Bridge which takes an hour and a half. But you may wish to go back as soon as we arrive in Hastings which is fine. At the moment those advance tickets cost around £13 but are restricted to a particular train. Flexible tickets go up to over £30.
