Defynnog Road, Sennybridge, United Kingdom
An ever-rarer site, this walk led by Pauline Hill will search for the tell-tale glowlight of this beetle under threat from loss of habitat and light pollution. Information about glowworm friendly measures and preferred habitats. The darkness of the new moon, after the sun has set, will give the best chance of spotting the glow and it also needs to be reasonably dry. Parking is in a lay-by (SN 97846 23967) on the A470 with a short but quite steep uphill walk to enter the wood. There are a few places to park if uphill walking is difficult for you. From Brecon travel south on the A470. Pass the turning to Dyfynnog (A4215) and look for a narrow lane on the right. The lay-by is immediately after the lane. 10 places only given narrow path and that glow worms could be anywhere. Torches required for the return walk, especially along the lane. No dogs please. Reserve date Saturday 26th July, if weather is really wet, windy on the main date. Look for updates.
Tickets for Glowworms in the gloaming can be booked here.
