About this Event

Feeling a little intimidated about kicking off your new woodworking project at the NE Seattle Tool Library Woodshop? Woodshop Open Hours: Project Support is designed to help you move from idea to action with the support of an experienced Woodshop Steward. Together, you can get help clarifying your plan, choosing materials, mapping out a cut list, and/or making your first safe cuts. For any advice you need, you can count on having one of our experienced Woodshop Stewards ready to help get your project off the ground.

What to Expect:

  • Short 1-on-1 consults to review your design, cut list, joinery, and tool choices
  • Applicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently
  • The opportunity to begin your project with on-hand support

What to Bring:

  • Your project idea, pictures, sketch, or plans (digital or paper)
  • Any materials you’ve already sourced (additional material selection advice can be provided)

Prerequisite:

You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here.

Cost & Donations:

We charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our Woodshop open. You can pay for any additional time via a QR code once you’ve completed your time in the shop.

Safety & SupervisionAll shop time is supervised. Our instructor and Woodshop Steward volunteers will help you use tools safely and make smart process choices as you get started. Email us at TkVTVEwgfCBzZWF0dGxlcmVjb25vbXkgISBvcmc= if you have any questions on Woodshop usage.

If none of the dates/times work for you, check “Woodshop Open Hours: Project Support (Woodshop Orientation Required)” on our .

If you are a more experienced woodworker, check out our regular Woodshop Open Hours. This is for folks who feel more confident in their woodworking, would like more independent time to work on their project, and require less personalized guidance. A Woodshop Steward will still be present to provide machine-based guidance, but they may not be experienced enough to provide personalized advice. Of course, if you cannot find an open spot in Woodshop Open Hours that fits your schedule, you are welcome to sign up for Woodshop Open Hours: Project Support, regardless of your experience.

ACCESSIBILITY

  • Much of the NE Seattle Tool Library interior is wheelchair accessible.  All entrances have ramps that may exceed a 5 degree slope. The all-gender restroom is quite small and not ADA compliant.
  • Non-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events, however attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.
  • Please contact us with any accessibility notes or requests.
