Seattle Public Library - Central Library
1000 4th Avenue, Seattle, United States
Every American city bears the legacy of highways that divided communities — and every city is grappling with what to do about them now.
Join KUOW and Ian Coss, host of the Peabody Award–winning podcast The Big Dig, for a live taping that looks at Seattle’s own efforts to confront this challenge and repair the harms of the past. The event takes place Monday, October 27, at 7 p.m. at the Central Library in downtown Seattle.
Coss will be joined on stage by KUOW’s Joshua McNichols, host of the Booming podcast, along with featured guests who have lived and shaped these debates — from the removal of the Alaskan Way Viaduct to South Park.
The Big Dig from GBH News explores Boston’s controversial project to bury a downtown highway — once the most expensive public works project in U.S. history — and the lessons it offers for today’s infrastructure ambitions. The series was named one of the best podcasts of 2023 by The New Yorker and one of the best podcasts of all time by Time magazine.
Featured Guests:
Greg Nickels – Former Mayor of Seattle
Cayce James – Strategic Advisor, City of Seattle
José Manuel Vásquez – Community Advocate, Reconnect South Park
