About the event

Resonant Light: A Collaboration by Kelsey Fernkopf and Tekla Cunningham
For Art + Culture Week, Foster/White will host a neon glass installation by Kelsey Fernkopf and musical performance by Tekla Cunningham.

About this Event

For the second annual Art + Culture Week, Foster/White presents Resonant Light, a collaborative installation and performance by local neon sculptor Kelsey Fernkopf and Baroque violinist Tekla Cunningham. Immerse yourself in gallery on Friday, September 26 with a performance by Cunningham at 3 pm, surrounded by Fernkopf’s luminous sculptures. The event is free and open to the public. Kelsey Fernkopf’s installation, Outside: In, and collaborative photographs of his neon pieces by Steve Gilbert will be on view in the gallery until Saturday, October 25.

About Tekla Cunningham: Baroque violinist Tekla Cunningham specializes in bringing the music of the baroque, classical and romantic eras to life with vivid and expressive historically informed performances. In 2024, she launched the Seattle Bach Festival, a new musical project. She is Artist-in-Residence and Director of the Baroque Ensemble at the University of Washington and Founder and Director of the Whidbey Island Music Festival, established in 2006. Tekla plays on a violin made by Sanctus Seraphin in Venice in 1746.

About Kelsey Fernkopf: Seattle based artist Kelsey Fernkopf’s BIG NEON sculptures highlight the linear and luminous qualities of neon glass tubing using a single continuous tube technique uniquely his own. Illuminated line and curve emanate dynamic strength and interact with their environment both as freestanding sculpture or in play with the architecture of walls and floors around them. Often creating single continuous tubes reaching 30 linear feet in length, Fernkopf’s BIG NEON challenges the boundaries of the luminous tube medium.
