As we prepare for the Maangaar Summit – Seattle Edition, I want to share more about the theme and focus of this gathering.
Many conversations around autism focus heavily on early childhood and early intervention, which is important. But we also know that as autistic children grow into teenagers, young adults, and adults, the systems become more complicated and the support becomes harder to navigate.
At this summit, we want to focus on the whole journey.
We will be centering conversations around youth and adults, parental wellbeing, and overall family wellbeing. Autism impacts entire families, and the supports we build should reflect that.
This summit is community-led, and it is important to us that autistic individuals are represented both in the planning committee and among the panelists. Their voices, perspectives, and lived experiences are essential to shaping meaningful conversations and solutions.
Our panels will bring together autistic advocates, clinicians who serve and understand our community, siblings of autistic people, and parents, creating space for honest dialogue and shared learning.
We believe there is a real gap in services and resources for autistic youth and young adults. While there is often strong support for younger children, families frequently find that the system becomes more difficult to navigate as their children grow older.
This summit is an opportunity to talk openly about those gaps, share knowledge, and connect families with resources and community support.
Maangaar is about our community, our voices, and our power.
We look forward to gathering together on April 11th, inshaAllah, in Seattle.
