This basic class will cover the tools you use for gardening, from hand pruners to shovels, both old and new, that have been set aside because they no longer work well, are rusty, chipped, and wobbly. Mostly, we will talk about sharpening them and keeping them sharp. The instructor will get into the minutia and how he looks at sharpening using reflected light and the sense of touch. Students are encouraged to bring their own tools.
About the instructor, Joel Gregory: Joel is a founding member of the NE Seattle Tool Library. He has spent many years using tools on a variety of projects, so he has lots of experience keeping tools sharp.
Our sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income.
