Curriculum Design/and Student Relationships Focus Group

Come join us at The Academy for Creating Excellence (A.C.E.) for an exciting event focused on improving curriculum design and student relationships! This in-person gathering will bring together educators, administrators, and other professionals to share insights, best practices, and innovative ideas. Don't miss this opportunity to collaborate and network with like-minded individuals who are passionate about enhancing the learning experience for students.

If you or someone you know is interested in signing up for a focus group about Black Educators, please complete the following survey.To understand how Black educators experience, influence, and navigate curriculum development and student relationships, especially in terms of cultural responsiveness, autonomy, and connection with students—particularly Black learnersFollowing the completion of this form, an in-person will be hosted at our ACE Office.

  • Focus group will about 1.5 hours
  • feature Black educators, both male and female
  • In-depth discussions about Curriculum Design/Instruction and Student Relationships/Engagement

Key Objectives

  • Identify how curriculum reflects (or fails to reflect) Black students’ lived experiences.
  • Explore the degree of autonomy Black educators have in adapting curriculum.
  • Examine the strategies educators use to build authentic relationships with students.
  • Highlight the impact of educator identity on student engagement and belonging.
  • Surface barriers and opportunities related to culturally responsive teaching and advocacy.

Discussion Focus Areas

📚 Curriculum Design & Instruction

  • Representation of Black culture, history, and voices in required materials
  • Flexibility to tailor instruction to student needs
  • Challenges in implementing culturally relevant pedagogy
  • Resources and supports needed to design liberatory learning experiences

👥 Student Relationships & Engagement

  • Approaches to building trust and rapport, especially with Black students
  • Social-emotional needs of students and how educators meet them
  • Impact of Black educator presence on student self-esteem and performance
  • Institutional support (or lack thereof) for meaningful student connection


About ACE: For 12 years, we have focused on individual and collective excellence through a culturally aware curriculum based in, exploration of society, science, math, and technology. ACE Academy challenges and enriches young men to think critically and seek creative solutions to problems in an atmosphere that promotes respect for all, collaboration, and hands-on learning. Providing programs for young male students, and teachers.

ACE’s mission is to provide high quality services in support of Black males and men of color. Fostering safe spaces to facilitate their growth to best understand themselves as viable world citizens.

Academy for Creating Excellence (ACE) exists to prepare Black males and men of color for excellence through the core values of FAMILY, ACADEMICS, MOTIVATION, and ENVIRONMENT (FAME).

About BEI: Our mission is to empower and uplift Black males and females, focusing on African-American/Black men and men of color within the Seattle, King County region. Our aim is to create secure spaces that enable a deeper understanding of their potential as valued global citizens.

The Black Educator Institute (BEI) is dedicated to equipping current and aspiring educators with the essential tools and resources to effectively guide and empower our Black students towards success. Committed to the advancement and support of all Black Educators in Washington State, our primary objective is to augment the presence of Black male educators statewide.

Through a range of initiatives including educational and social events, professional development workshops, mentorship opportunities, and grants, the BEI is designed to accelerate the careers of Black Educators. Members will enhance their expertise in curriculum development, classroom management, networking, mentorship, and fostering family engagement.

Our ultimate goal is to profoundly impact the lives of our educators, enabling them to better educate and support our Black youth.
