America's Playground: Atlantic City in the Nifty Fifties

Based on the research for her newest release, Murder on the Steel Pier, which is set in 1955, local author Rosie Genova presents a slice of Atlantic City life in all its color and grit.

Known as “America’s Playground,” mid-century AC was a vibrant and bustling vacation spot. Its Steel Pier was an entertainment destination, with shows featuring such stars as Frank Sinatra, Bill Haley and the Comets, and jazz singer Sarah Vaughn. The city boasted an impressive skyline, with landmark hotels like the Traymore and the Marlboro-Blenheim. Gambling in AC wasn’t yet legal, but plenty of it went on in back rooms of nightclubs.
