On January 21st Scarborough Jazz Club welcomes Duke Junction, a band that draws from a broad range of jazz influences, including the Peter Bernstein Trio, Art Pepper, Thelonious Monk, Larry Young, Jimmy Smith and Duke Ellington (whose legacy inspired the band's name).
The group brings these influences to life through some of the finest musicians on the jazz scene. Nadim Teimoori on saxophone has performed with renowned artists such as Stan Tracey, Gareth Lockrane and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Guitarist Jeff Hewer, a student of Peter Bernstein, John Abercrombie and Barry Harris, frequently performs with his own ensembles. Martin Longhawn, an accomplished organist, has worked with an array of artists, and Steve Hanley on drums is one of the most sought-after players on the scene.
