In the beginning of January Kelly had an appointment for a ct scan due to months of pain in his stomach that they kept pushing off as being “backed up”. That was far from reality.
On January 11th I got a message from my mom to give her a call. Saturday afternoon she calls to let me know that dads scans came back and they found Infiltrative 7.0 cm mesenteric soft tissue mass with multiple enlarged retroperitoneal lymph nodes concerning for metastases.
January 21st he had an appointment to get Biopsy done! They went in with a scope as the mass is basically in the center of his guts (as the dr described it)
January 23rd parents for the call that it was Cancer ! The dreadful C word that no one wants to ever hear!
They had a follow up with the cancer dr on January 27th
PET scan was scheduled for February 15th
And another follow up February 19th
February 19th - the day of the official diagnosis.
STAGE 4 LUNG CANCER ! With many questions lots of emotions and pissed off because f*ck cancer -
With some hiccups with insurance on March 3rd (a monday morning) he had a procedure done to put his port in.
Morning of March 4th (a Tuesday) they got the call to start chemo that same day! Very long day for both Mom and dad!
The next day he was scheduled to work! As much as this man thrives as a bust ass he woke up for work and was weak and dizzy! Made the right choice to stay home!
Following day he pushed Through work (we all know he should have stayed home and rested) but he made it to the end of his shift!
Friday March 7th. Message from mom
“Ok I had to bring dad to point ER he was very weak almost passed out . He also has blood in his stool and stomach pain. They are running tests and he will be getting a blood transfusion. I’ll post more when I know anything.”
He had the blood transfusion- was admitted to the hospital - Saturday morning he had a procedure with the GI dr and found ulcers- he was on a liquid diet from the time he went in Friday until Saturday evening when they finally allowed him to eat (don’t let a grown man going through chemo not eat!) lol
He was finally able to come home Sunday evening on March 9th. This hard working man that usually don’t let anything get in his way is realizing it’s time to take a step back - fight this cancer- and not push himself like he normally would.
with everything that is going on- he has already been missing tons of work! Us kids are trying to do anything to help our parents out financially with the many hurdles they are currently facing and will be facing here on out .
And every penny raised will help with the cost of bills and gas back and forth to appointments and any other medical expenses!
