Songs and chamber music for voice piano and strings by Clara and Robert Schumann

Featuring a rare collaboration between guest artist Betty Allison and pianist Kathleen Solose, Elixir presents exquisite songs by Clara and Robert Schumann, including Clara's famous "die Lorelei", from the legend of Lorelei, siren of Germanic mythology, of great beauty and entrancing song, who was placed on a rock on the Rhine and with her song seduced the navigators. Robert's version appears in his "Liederkreis", a song cycle that includes the stunning "Mondnacht" (Moon-night).

Robert Schumann's exciting D minor trio concludes the program with Elixir performers Oxana Ossiptchouk, cellist Peter Hedlin and pianist Kathleen Solose.

Teaching artist and soprano Dr. Betty Allison has recently joined the faculty as a professor of voice at the University of Saskatchewan. A graduate of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble, Betty has performed a varied repertoire, demonstrating her natural ability from the Countess (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), to Vixen (Cunning Little Vixen) and Elizabeth I (Gloriana). She is equally comfortable on the opera and recital stage. The German and Czech song literature is some of her preferred recital repertoire.
