Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn already made a name for himself for creating films exploring the brutality of man with his "Pusher" series, "Bronson", and "Valhalla Rising" by the time he teamed up with Ryan Gosling to create the 80's stylistic noir DRIVE in 2011 (leading to a Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for Albert Brooks!), followed by his neon-hued Bangkok underworld thriller ONLY GOD FORGIVES, co-starring Thai actor Vithaya Pansringarm in very contrasting fight and karaoke scenes.
We will have the pleasure of presenting both DRIVE and ONLY GOD FORGIVES for our August 2025 Retrospective!
DRIVE - Rated 18A - 7:00PM
Driver is a skilled Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a getaway driver for criminals. Though he projects an icy exterior, lately he's been warming up to a pretty neighbor named Irene and her young son, Benicio. When Irene's husband gets out of jail, he enlists Driver's help in a million-dollar heist. The job goes horribly wrong, and Driver must risk his life to protect Irene and Benicio from the vengeful masterminds behind the robbery.
ONLY GOD FORGIVES - Rated 18A - 9:30PM
