This month, we’re celebrating the stories that shine through the storm clouds. Featured Storyteller: Jay Liles
Jay Liles swears his sunny outlook stems from getting a rock lodged in his head at age five—and honestly, that might explain a lot. A local favorite and self-proclaimed storyteller of the absurd, his tale “Jay’s Shitty Car” became a front porch bestseller at Sundog Books and even snagged the top spot on Amazon’s new releases. His other adventures, like “How to Get to Europe for $5.60," “The Surfer from Mississippi,” and “The Beach Beer Mile,” have earned laughs and loyal fans on YouTube and beyond. When he’s not spinning wild yarns, Jay’s making music—he was once the house musician at The Red Bar, and his tunes can be found on Spotify. Whether he’s behind a mic or a guitar, one thing’s for sure: Jay knows how to tell a story you won’t forget.
