🎬 Rediscovered Classic: RIVERBEND Returns to the Big Screen – Oct 14
To all Cinema Lovers
Thirty-five years ago, I directed a powerful and provocative film titled RIVERBEND, starring Steve James (American Ninja) and Academy Award nominee Margaret Avery (The Color Purple). Set in the racially segregated South of the 1960s, the story explores injustice and resistance with a bold narrative twist that stunned audiences.
After a brief release, the film disappeared—surviving only in rare VHS copies. But now, the original negative has been found, along with a pristine 35mm print.
To celebrate this rediscovery, the American Cinematheque is hosting a special West Coast premiere screening at the 📌Aero Theater in Santa Monica on 🗓️Tuesday, October 14 at ⏰7:30 PM. The event includes a post-screening panel with the cast and me, where we’ll take questions from the audience.
This is a rare opportunity to experience RIVERBEND as it was meant to be seen—on the big screen, with its creators in the house.
