Santa Monica to Point Mugu Rock
RIDE DESCRIPTION:
Beat the summer heat with a cool ride up the Pacific Coast. We'll head north from Santa Monica along Pacific Coast Highway to Point Mugu Rock. Point Mugu is a cape or promontory within Point Mugu State Park on the Pacific Coast in Ventura County, near the city of Port Hueneme and the city of Oxnard. The name is believed to be derived from the Chumash Indian term "Muwu", meaning "beach", which was first mentioned by Cabrillo in his journals in 1542. This out-and-back ride will take you past Will Rogers State Beach, Topanga Beach, Las Tunas Beach, Las Flores, Malibu Beach, Point Dume, El Matador State Beach and Leo Carillo State Park.
On the way up, we'll have rest stops at Cross Creek and Leo Carillo State Beach. After Point Mugu Rock, our return trip will have a rest stops at Sycamore Cove State Beach, Dan Blocker State Beach and Inspiration Point.
The Pacific Coast is by no means flat. There will be rolling hills along most of the entire route.
