The Bardo Thödol or "Liberation Through Hearing in the Bardo," refers to the great benefit that a person specifically accrues for the time of death by hearing. This teaching is primarily related to the Dzogchen approach, and also to the deities.
If one has a good understanding while alive, then at the time of death, simply hearing the scripture will revive one's memory, enabling you to recognize the appearances and fears of that time, and thereby evoke tremendous security.
The main practice is to recognize the illusions of the death process and connect them with one's own meditative realization.
Furthermore, in accordance with the stages of transformation of the elemental energies related to body and mind, one recognizes the energies residing in body and mind as deities, so that one can see the peaceful and wrathful deities. If one does not recognize them, they become causes of fear. This is about how to recognize and identify them as one's protectors. Likewise, all the practices for developing understanding about how to transfer one's consciousness will be included.
