Join us under the oaks at the historic Coggeshall Bowl for a powerful afternoon of poetry. Santa Barbara Poet Laureate George Yatchisin will introduce two celebrated voices in contemporary literature: Keith Ekiss and Nicholas Tino Reiner. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear two distinctive poetic voices whose work traverses borders, histories, and the intimate terrains of the human experience.
Keith Ekiss is the author of Burial Fragments, co-winner of the 2024 Barry Spacks Poetry Prize from Gunpowder Press, and Pima Road Notebook, a meditation on memory, landscape, and identity in the American Southwest. A gifted translator, he’s brought the visionary work of Costa Rican poet Eunice Odio to English-speaking audiences in The Fire’s Journey and Territory of Dawn. Keith has taught in Stanford University’s English Department since 2007.
Nicholas Tino Reiner, an American poet of Mexican heritage, is the author of Levitations, winner of the inaugural Alta California Chapbook Prize, published in a bilingual edition by Gunpowder Press. His work—appearing in Spillway, Zócalo Public Square, and Western Humanities Review, among others—explores questions of culture, family, and justice. He serves as Associate Director of Media & Storytelling at the ACLU of Southern California.
The Coggeshall Bowl amphitheater-style seating is stone. For optimal comfort, bring a cushion.
