June Millington has been making music since childhood, playing ukulele in her native Philippines. Moving from Manila to the Sacramento area in the early sixties, she and her sister, bassist Jean, turned in their folk guitars for electric and formed a succession of all-girl bands. In 1969 they co-founded Fanny, the first all-women rock band to be signed to a major label (Reprise Records) and the band about whom David Bowie told Rolling Stone in a 2000 interview: “They were extraordinary; they wrote everything… They are as important as anyone else who’s ever been, ever”. Through five successful albums and extensive touring of Europe and North America, Fanny served notice that women could do more than simply sing: they could write and play passionate rock ‘n roll.

Post-Fanny, June has toured extensively as a solo artist and helms Institute for the Musical Arts, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls to flower in every corner of the music industry. The 2021 documentary "Fanny: The Right To Rock" was screened in select theatres, and streamed on PBS.

Bay Area locals The Sound Field are an electric ensemble (Nic Grabien on bass, Larry Luthi on drums), with a repertoire primarily featuring frontwoman and songwriter Deborah Grabien’s originals. Nic and Deb have been playing music together since they met in 1976; Larry joined the party in 2013, and the present-day core three-piece band was formed. More often than not joined by Henry and Kathleen Salvia and Ratdog guitarist Mark Karan, they’ve worked and recorded with the likes of Pete Sears, Jason Crosby, and David Lindley. They're finishing up their third CD.
