Featuring artists selected through a statewide open call to for art/science, SciArt Santa Fe presents Woven Skies: SciArt from Air to the Cosmos, a group exhibition and series of artists’ talks, with a diverse range of perspectives and media at the Santa Fe Art Institute. Artists in the exhibition illuminate matter, energy, form and other aspects from air to the cosmos through research-based investigation at the intersection of art and science with a high level of aesthetic quality.
Featured Artists: Established and emerging artists from across the state using a variety of traditional and experimental media featured are: Kirsten Angerbauer, Colin Barker, Fiona Bell, Paul Biagi, Natalie Christensen, Shirley Crow, Jim Eyre, Marianne Hornbuckle, Susan Latham, Andrea Polli, Alyce Santoro, Zuyva Sevilla, Joan Stango, Dora Tass and Isabel Winson-Sagan.
Dates/Times: Open Saturdays and Sundays during events listed below May 3rd to May 25th
Exhibition Opening: Saturday May 3rd @ 5-7pm
Featuring a Rubens Tube performance by artist Alyce Santoro from 6-7PM

‘LASER’ Presentations
In conjunction with the exhibition, SciArt Santa Fe will host presentations called ‘LASERs’ each Saturday and Sunday. LASER stands for Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous. LASER presentations take place around the world in more than 40 institutions in 4 continents, and SciArt Santa Fe represents New Mexico in this prestigious international Leonardo Society for the Arts, Sciences, and Technology initiative. Woven Skies LASERs will feature exhibiting New Mexico artists and sciart experts from across the state.

OFF SITE EVENTS
In addition to the May 25th LASER in Santa Fe, Agnes Chavez and Dr. Julia Blue Bird will present a Special Woven Skies LASER at the Chaco Culture National Park Visitor Center during the Star Party on May 23rd
Interdisciplinary artist Agnes Chavez, founder of STEMarts Lab, and NASA engineer and astrophysicist Dr. Julia Blue Bird come together in this inspiring presentation to explore how sci-art collaborations deepen our understanding of the universe.
Agnes Chavez will share Space Messengers, an immersive and interactive installation that invites participants to explore the universe through the lens of particle physics, astrophysics, cultural cosmologies, and futures thinking.
Dr. Julia Blue Bird, an astrophysicist, Lakota educator and STEMarts collaborator, will share how she brings youth leaders into contact with the Cosmic Web and how galaxies grow & evolve within this underlying structure of the Universe. She will share Indigenous perspectives, discussing how traditional knowledge aligns with and enhances modern astrophysics.
