Visit to the Bear Divide Banding Station with Oxnard Birders Club!

Event Overview:

The Oxnard Birders Club invites you to join our next birding trip to the on Saturday, May 3rd, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to witness spring migration in action! On active mornings, hundreds of migratory birds can be seen funneling through the narrow Bear Divide mountain pass—many flying by at eye level or just overhead! During the spring months, migratory species travel through this corridor on their journey from wintering habitats to breeding grounds. Scientists and bird banders will be on site to demonstrate the bird banding process, explain data collection methods, and help with species identification. For those interested in birding the surrounding area, binoculars will be available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis.

For directions, set your map to Bear Divide Vista Picnic Area. From there, continue down Santa Clara Truck Trail Road, past the gates marked “Local Deliveries Only.” We will meet in the dirt lot at 34.360602, -118.397702. Accessability Information:

This event may require patience, as bird activity can vary greatly depending on the weather—there may be a large influx of birds or long periods of little movement. If you are unable to stand for extended periods, we recommend bringing a portable chair. Please note that there are no restrooms at the site.
