Sanford Bicycle Club invites the brave, the curious, and the mildly suspicious to gather for an evening ride unlike any other. On this night, we trade our usual routes for riddles, our familiar turns for whispers, and our expectations for… well, something else entirely.
No one—not even the organizers—can say with certainty what will unfold. Some claim the route was discovered scribbled on the back of an old Sanford Herald clipping from 1912. Others insist it was pieced together from fragments of a long‑forgotten map found tucked behind a loose brick at the old fire station. A few swear they’ve heard the sound of phantom spokes turning somewhere near the river after dark.
What we can tell you is this:
• We leave from Dees Brothers Brewing at 6 PM
• We ride together
• We follow the clues as they appear
• And we do not—under any circumstances—split the group
(Those who did on the 1937 Mystery Ride were never quite the same again.)
Beyond that… the night decides.
Some say the Great Mystery Ride began decades ago, when a Sanford cyclist vanished for exactly one hour and returned with a story he refused to tell. Others say it started even earlier, when a lantern‑lit procession of riders was seen drifting silently down 1st Street, their wheels leaving no tracks. The truth is uncertain, and perhaps that’s for the best.
Expect twists. Expect turns. Expect the unexpected.
Distance? Unknown.
Destination? Classified.
Terrain? Unspecified.
Atmosphere? Thick enough to cut with a spoke wrench.
Bring lights, bring friends, bring your sense of adventure—and maybe bring a little courage. The shadows around Lake Monroe have been restless lately, and several riders have reported seeing… shapes. Probably nothing. Probably.
Join us for a night of suspense, camaraderie, and the kind of storytelling that only happens when the path ahead is dark and the company is good.
