You have rappelled many times. Yes. But, do you really know how to? If you answer “ahhmm”, then probably you don’t. Maybe you tried it from a group, an event, a gym, a theme or recreational park, or a teambuilding facility but there’s more to rappelling.
If you want to know more than just going down the rope or you want to know if the group you are joining knows what they are doing or you just want to know how we do it, then this course is for you.
Why would you want to learn the skill? Simple, SAFETY.For me, it comes from 3 factors: science, the art, and attitude. There is math in rappelling, and math is an exact Science. And believe it or not, there are some computations and numbers involved here. Art comes into play as one rappels in proper form. Awkward moves and positions bring one into awkward and unsafe situations. Worse, some need to be rescued. Judgement, coaching, modelling, leading, and the likes are attitude-based. Making decisions on what technicalities (science) to apply and what form or style (art) to do are and should becentred on right attitude.
Rappelling is a dangerous undertaking. Learning the fundamentals, more than just the rappel itself, might save a life or limb. The rappelling itself is very easy and fun. But, just like skydiving and other extreme sports, you have to learn the principles to properly do the activity and live to do it another day.
