Please join the SF/Bay Area iaedp Chapter for our first event of 2025! We are looking forward to learning more about how to support our clients who experience GI distress. Following the talk, some of us plan to gather at Water Tower Kitchen in Campbell to continue the discussion. Please feel free to join!
Description:
Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms such as bloating, constipation, reflux, and abdominal pain are among the most common yet poorly addressed issues in individuals with eating disorders (EDs). These symptoms can impact nutritional rehabilitation, body image distress, and overall treatment engagement. This presentation will provide social workers, therapists, dietitians, and medical professionals with a functional and interdisciplinary framework to assess and address GI dysfunction in individuals with EDs. Attendees will learn about the gut-brain connection, the physiological consequences of disordered eating behaviors on digestion, and evidence-based strategies to improve GI function while supporting psychological and behavioral recovery.
About the Presenter:
Dr. Heather Finley is a registered dietitian with a doctorate in clinical nutrition. She and her team help people struggling with bloating, brain fog, hormone imbalances, and GI issues find lasting relief and feel excited about food again.
After battling her own digestive and hormone issues for nearly 20 years, Heather understands firsthand how nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset influence gut health. She believes gut healing shouldn't be restrictive, stressful, or all-consuming. Her signature approach helps individuals reduce digestive symptoms while expanding their diet.
Dr. Heather earned her doctorate in clinical nutrition from Maryland University of Integrative Health. Her expertise has been featured on Good Morning Texas, MindBodyGreen, Yahoo! Life, and VeryWell Health. She is the founder of the gutTogether® program for individuals and the gutPractitioner program for clinicians.
