Local artist and author Keith Hansen explores the beauty, wonder and passion that surrounds birds and birding in the Bay Area and beyond.
Come along on this odyssey, as we bounce between Point Reyes, Arctic Alaska, the Galapagos and the Amazon. Learn the importance of travel and first-hand experience with these feathered creatures as Keith shares from books he has illustrated, discusses multi-year mural projects and gets tangled up in revolution while birding in Chiapas, Mexico.
Since early childhood, Keith has felt most comfortable surrounded by nature and has been captivated by birds and their beauty ever since. This richly illustrated program explains the artists’ journey through the teachings of his mother and his discovery of the physics of flight from his father, a Naval Aviator. Whether it is exploring the Cloud Forests of Colombia, a decade of volunteering on the Farallon Islands or studying seabirds in the Tropical Pacific aboard a NOAA vessel, Keith keeps it lively, colorful and entertaining.
Keith Hansen is the author of Hansen’s Field Guide to the Birds of the Sierra Nevada and Birds of Point Reyes, both published by Heyday Books in Berkeley.
Signed books will be available for purchase at the event.
This program will be held in the Latino Hispanic Room, located on the lower level of the Main Library.
