Myles Ortiz-Green’s Electronic Improvisations was born from a desire to communicate how their reality has been inescapably shaped by a saturation in contemporary technologies. Like many young adults living in urban spaces, they are an avid technology user. These technologies mediate the interface between themself and the urban environment, rendering the digital audio- visual space synonymous with urbanity. To that end, they want to represent these modern aural practices and aesthetics through digital and analog manipulation. Their music is thematized by escapism and a sort of “cultural limbo”; trying to get at the feeling of identifying nowhere, but also feeling an urgency of identifying somewhere. They use materials and techniques that reflect their upbringing in Los Angeles in a Puerto Rican and Black household, and their background as a film composer. Ultimately, Electronic Improvisations is about preservation; the desolate, mystical, and savagely beautiful little places we escape to in our minds as we navigate stormy seas.

Myles Ortiz-Green is a multidisciplinary artist, pianist and composer who explores the ideas of interconnectedness, digital identity, decadence, and the “in-between”. Their current work aims to try and bring the worlds of classical composition, jazz, hip-hop and electronic music together. For their live sets, they build and augment analogue and digital electronic instruments to manipulate samples and field recordings. A native of Los Angeles, they’ve been able to collaborate on a variety of films, multimedia projects, and installations. Myles holds a BA in music from Tulane University, and currently are pursuing a PhD in Computer Music at University of California San Diego.
