Beginner Hike at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve

Join PlantDiego for a fun and scenic 1.7 mile easy-going, beginner hike in Rancho Penasquitos, starting at Canyonside Park.

Whether you're new to hiking or just looking for a leisurely stroll, this event is the perfect outdoor outing to enjoy nature’s beauty, fresh air and exercise while walking with new friends.

We’ll meander through mostly-shady trails, stop by the historic adobe Ranch House, pass streams and creeks, walk over a few cute bridges, brush the goats, and say hello to the chickens and the pigs.

There are outhouses in the parking lot and two bathrooms at the Ranch House (mid-hike).

Enter from Black Mountain Road, take Canyonside Park Driveway and drive down the road, past the baseball fields. Park at Canyonside Community Park, behind the last baseball field, on the right (east side).

Your leaders include Nina Shantel, Certified Personal Trainer and Strength & Conditioning Coach, and Steve, who climbed Mount Whitney Mountaineer’s Route. We are both here to guide the way and help in any way we can.

Where: Los Penasquitos Canyon Reserve, starting at Canyonside Community Park, 12350 Black Mountain Rd, San Diego, CA 92129

Bring: Closed-toe hiking shoes, sunscreen, a hat, drinking water, (maybe) a light jacket, and snacks.
