TITLE: Make Like a Tree and Improv
DESCRIPTION: Trees. They start inconspicuously as tiny seeds carried in squirrel cheeks or bird droppings, but given time and simple resources, seeds can grow into some of the most majestic structures on earth. Improv is the same. The single word suggestion is the seed. The raucous laughter while the scene is swiped is the sprawling canopy. In this workshop, we will teach you how to root your scene in a rich soil of grounded reality and water your scenes with abundant agreement. Learn how to start from a place of reality to create authentic, meaningful scene work with your partner. This workshop will focus on creating grounded scenes, avoiding ironic detachment, being present, and building a shared reality with your scene partner that helps to spotlight both performers. Third Place will push you to explore these concepts to their pure extremes. Never again grow scenes on a bed of cheap topsoil and tap water.
INSTRUCTOR BIO: The Third Place (Clint Taylor, Caroline O'Malley, Gary Soldati, Shawn Kenyon) is a new improv group in San Antonio with a wide variety of backgrounds. Our mission is to foster a community that celebrates all art, which inspires our improv. We believe that a community of creatives is necessary for living a fulfilled life and hope to be the “third place” outside of home and work that people come to in order to pursue their artistic endeavors. We believe in joyful experimenting and embracing constructive failures. In addition to performing on stage, we host monthly artist/and writers meetups, post weekly creative prompts, create zines, hug trees, and plan on adding many more events to our monthly dockets. Our improv style has its roots in game-based play, but ultimately we seek to find the joy in performing, connect with our scene partners, and embrace the fleeting nature of this magical ephemeral art form.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Workshop requires level one improv experience from any theater.
