Join us for a discussion about San Francisco’s newest and most contentious park—Sunset Dunes—created from the permanent closure of a two-mile stretch of the Great Highway along Ocean Beach. Sarah Madland | Director of Policy and Public Affairs and Lucas Lux, President of Friends of Ocean Beach Park explore how the park came to be, from the passage of Proposition K and the rapid transformation of the roadway, to the heated debates over neighborhood traffic, community input, and the ongoing recall effort targeting Supervisor Joel Engardio. The discussion will also highlight the park’s popularity, amenities, public art program and the broader questions it raises about public space, urban planning, and the future of San Francisco’s beachfront.
