Yaya Dembele nasce nel 1978 a Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, in una famiglia di Griot. I Griot nella tradizione dell’Africa Occidentale sono i maestri della parola, cioè i cantastorie che hanno tramandato per secoli le gesta eroiche di principi e re con l’accompagnamento musicale. Dai loro canti traspaiono miti, leggende, credenze e conoscenze che fanno di loro i depositari del patrimonio storico e culturale del popolo cui appartengono.
