Que Retro Arts and Curious Twins will host F.R.I.D.A./Frida Fest 2025, a two day celebration on Saturday and Sunday, November 15-16, 2025, 12pm-6pm inside Maverick Plaza at the Historic La Villita in Downtown San Antonio.
Frida Fest is an annual family-friendly event (since 2016) where guests can experience a one-of-a-kind community gathering with a handcrafted artisan mercado (showcasing over 60 artisan vendors), access to local art galleries, photo opportunities, a fashion show, music, cultural performances, culinary demonstrations, artist panels, and authentic Mexican cuisine.
The two-day festival celebrates the life and legacy of acclaimed Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. Frida Fest also seeks to empower our community and celebrate all the fabulous, independent, determined and self assured women of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, including as Frida Kahlo, Selena Quintanilla, Gloria Anzaldúa, Chavela Vargas, and countless others.
A New Venue:
This year we are coming together with the La Villita community and the talents of Chef Johnny Hernandez to launch Frida Fest at La Villita. This partnership would allow us to showcase culture, culinary arts, visual arts, and performing arts together at a historic cultural location in the heart of downtown San Antonio.
Guinness World Record Attempt:
We are also excited to announce that we are going to compete for the Guinness World Record for the largest single gathering of people dressed as the iconic Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. Fridas of all ages and genders are encouraged to participate!
Visitors who attend on Saturday, November 15, 2025 are encouraged to dress in their best representation of Frida. To participate in the record attempt, individuals must provide their own costume, which cannot be shared among multiple individuals, and follow the costume rules set by Guinness World Records listed below:
• A unibrow drawn onto the face joining the eyebrows. This can be done with make-up or by sticking hair.
• Artificial flowers worn in the hair, a minimum of three artificial flowers must be worn.
• A red or pink shawl.
• A flower-printed dress that extends to below the knees on all sides; the dress must not have any slits up the side.
If you do not meet the criteria listed above, you won’t be able to participate in the record attempt per the Guinness World Records’ guidelines.
