This fossil safari is something a little different - you have to be aged 13 or over to take part!
Almost all the fossiling trips I lead are for families, so we thought it might be nice to offer one or two where there's a bit more space for banter, adult conversation, and important questions like 'what's that rock over there?'
This trip to Runswick Bay is for those who'd prefer a bit of non-kid time (but is still suited to the big kid at heart). It also follows a slightly less family-friendly route, with more boulders and some slippery wave-cut rock platforms, so please do make sure you wear footwear with good grip and ankle support.
Our 2-hour tour meets on the grass near the Tides beach cafe, and then heads out onto the beach. We typically go north along the coast towards Port Mulgrave, but if conditions aren't suitable we will instead head east towards Kettleness. Either way, there are amazing rocks and fossils - especially ammonites, belemnites, jet, and reptile bones - to satisfy even the most grizzled rockhound.
Please arrive at the meeting location 15 minutes before the start time. Parking near the beach can be in short supply, particularly in spring and summer afternoons, so please also allow an extra 15 minutes in case you need to park up the hill in the village and walk down. Runswick Bay is worth the effort though!
