Kenneth Roth is an American attorney, human rights activist, and author who served as executive director of Human Rights Watch from 1993 to 2022. Under his leadership, the organization grew into a global force for justice investigating abuses in more than 90 countries.
A former federal prosecutor in New York, Roth’s commitment to human rights was deeply shaped by his father’s escape from Nazi Germany. Known for his fearless and principled analysis, Roth continues to write, teach, and speak worldwide. He is presently a visiting professor at Princeton University and a columnist with the Guardian newspaper.
