New World Shakespeare Company joins in the Fringe fun this year for the first time ever with an original play by award-winning playwright Élise C. Hanson: The Rest is Silence: A Support Group for the Dramatically Damaged.
This witty dramedy explores famous (and not-so-famous) Shakespeare characters in group therapy, led by the consummate survivor Horatio. Hilarity, nose-grabbing fights, beheadings, healing, and pizza ensue. For some of these characters, the motivations behind talking through their tragedies may seem obvious. For some, Bianca (from Othello) asks a question we all want to see answered: "Why are you here?... Also, who are you?"
Hanson's script was a recipient of recognition from The David Fetzer Award for Emerging Artists in 2015. A full-length version of the play was produced by New World Shakespeare Company in 2021. New World is delighted to bring a Fringe-length version of the beloved play (directed by Blayne Wiley) to the GSL Fringe Festival this year. Some of the actors loved the play so much, they are reprising their roles! We're excited to present this refreshing and remarkable work with the incredible artists at Fringe.
