Pride Month Film Screening: "A Long Way From Heaven"
Come join us at the Salt Lake City Public Library for a special screening of the film "A Long Way From Heaven" in celebration of Pride Month!
From director David Sant: "A Long Way From Heaven outlines the struggles of queer students at Brigham Young university, the flagship university of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). In addition to highlighting the historical oppression these students face, the film tells the story of the brave group of students and allies who lit up the school's iconic "Y" in rainbow colors on March 4th, 2021. The fallout from these events in explored in detail, focusing on the school's controversial "honor code", which bans any expression of same-sex romantic feelings."
Organizing this film screening and panel is the Mildred Berryman Institute for Utah LGBTIQ+ Utah History. The Mildred Berryman Institute promotes public education and general knowledge of Utah LGBTIQ+ history, culture and arts in all their diversity by fostering a collegial atmosphere among LBGTIQ+ Utah researchers.
