Calling all two-wheeled pedal enthusiasts! It’s time to lug out that bicycle, slug off your puffer coat, and get ready for the 13th Annual SLUG Cat. This alley cat–style bike race sends riders all over downtown SLC to solve clues, play games and win points as they race toward the finish line in hopes of obtaining the grand prize! The race takes place Saturday, May 10, with registration starting at 4 p.m. at the Artspace parking lot (230 S 500 West, SLC, UT 84101) and a 5 p.m. race kickoff.
For the past 13 years, SLUG Mag has hosted the SLUG Cat bike race to celebrate SLC’s flourishing bike community. Inspired by the scavenger hunt–style bicycle races made popular by bike messengers in places like San Francisco and New York, SLUG Cat has become an unparalleled event in the Salt Lake community. Whether you’ve been cycling for years or are still on training wheels, SLUG Cat is a must for all local riders.
Competitors will be given various clues that direct them to locations all around downtown Salt Lake City. In order to win the grand prize, they must decipher the clues and plan out a route to get to the finish as fast as possible. Bikers will race from location to location performing challenges along the way to earn points that will bolster their score. The race ends with a party, awards ceremony, and prizes at the SLUG Mag HQ with music provided by DJ Nix Beat.
Get ready to turn those pedals at the 13th Annual SLUG Cat!
