Join The Washtenaw County Conservationists Chapter of The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and Pittsfield Township Parks and Recreation (PTPR) for a collaborative effort to improve habitat at the Pittsfield Preserve. These habitat restoration efforts will improve nesting habitat for turkeys, but will also benefit pollinators, songbirds, waterfowl, small mammals, and many other species too. There are many specific needs at this location, and we plan to do whatever is most needed at the moment. We anticipate cutting woody invasive species and creating brush piles, but don't be surprised if we find different ways to get the work done! You do not need to stay for the full 2.5-hour working session, we will have cones leading you out to the cleanup area if you stop by later and we are not in the parking lot/check-in table.
Snacks will be provided by NWTF.
Supplies Needed: Just bring yourself, a few friends, water, shears (if you have them, there will be a few spare sets to use if you don't), and your work gloves, and we’ll supply the rest. We will keep track of volunteer hours, let us know if you need any "proof of service" for your own records.
Parking and Meeting Location: We will be meeting near the entrance off of Textile Rd. (park at Marsh View Meadows Park and use the greenway to walk East to the crosswalk and enter the preserve on this textile entrance, there will be a flag and cones for you to spot where to enter ... we are using this entrance as it is closest to the area that needs the most work to be completed at the preserve).
Event is free, but registration is REQUIRED!
