Research ethics play a pivotal role in safeguarding participants, particularly within hierarchical organisational settings that present unique ethical challenges. Dr Langdon will lead a discussion group addressing these issues, utilising real-world examples to illustrate risks such as harm to staff and power imbalances. This 1-hour session aims to enhance your understanding of these challenges and improve your research skills, especially if you intend to conduct research within organisational contexts
Dr Langdon began his research career in 1994 with a private sector research organisation working on projects supporting strategic health service improvements. In 1997 he joined the University of Hull’s department of Primary Care and Behavioural Medicine in 1997 researching health professional and patient interaction in chronic disease management. He transitioned to the civil service in 2003, designing and leading large-scale policy evaluations. He established the first in-house qualitative research unit for DWP policy evaluation, chairs the DWP Social Research Ethics Advice Panel, and serves as an external member of the University of Salford’s Academic Ethics and Research Integrity Committee (AERIC).
