Old Mcdonald's Farm

Southeast TN Young Farmers Coalition is over the moon excited to partner with Hamilton County's McDonald Farm in Sale Creek for the Third Ever Farm Olympics! McDonald Farm is one of the last remaining large pieces of farmland in Hamilton County and its future remains TBD by the Hamilton County Commission and their vocal (right?) constituents. Will it be a resource for area farmers and a connection point for the public to learn about agriculture and the natural abundance that surrounds the farm? There are so many questions. That is why we want you to come see if for yourself and, while you are there, to celebrate with us and release your pent up competitive urges!
In our third year of this tradition, we will celebrate our community, compete for the Farm Olympics Cup, spread awareness about the serious challenges that young farmers face, and raise money to help our chapter address those issues.
Attendees may participate in, or simply watch, a variety of farm-related sporting events. This years’ events include the Kubota of Chattanooga Transplant Race, American Farmland Trust The Obstacles to Land Access Race; The Sequatchie Cove Farm Multigenerational Egg Toss; The Land Trust for Tennessee Plant Identification Quiz; the Hay Bale Toss; the Classic Fence Race; a Kids and Adult's Water Trough Relay, as well as the Grace Frank Group Egg Juggle, and the Lupi’s Pizza Pies Pie Judging event.
If you're ready to compete, please (and also get a ticket) and make sure you show up by 2pm!
Competitive events will be followed by a farm to picnic blanket feast featuring Cove Creek pork and side dishes from local farms and restaurants. After dinner there will be a silent auction (online pre-bidding available the week before the event) with products from our farmers and supporters; and a community contra dance featuring the Cumberland Mountain Music Makers.
Young Farmer Members get half price admissions (and membership is open to all and affordable). If you are a current member or you want to sign up please use code setnyfmember25 at check out and we'll be in touch with more info. There are also a limited number of free volunteer tickets because we need race timers and food servers too! Volunteers are asked to be there all day and to attend a virtual training ahead of the event.
Please bring sunscreen and hats, bug spray, water bottles, lawn chairs and blankets!
Made possible with generous support from the Alter Eco Farms, Kent Ballow, Food as a Verb, the Grace Frank Group, Hamilton County Parks, Kubota of Chattanooga, Lupi’s Pizza Pies, Niedlov’s Bakery and Cafe, Sequatchie Cove Farm, Summer Fields, The Land Trust for Tennessee, American Farmland Trust, Appalachian Conservation Institute, Cumberland Forest School, Southeast AgriSeeds, Stewards Unlimited, TennGreen Land Conservancy, The Marugg Company, and anonymous friends!
