SME Toolkit: Malta as a Launchpad - Restructuring for UK or US investment

This session is designed to support local SMEs and startups that are considering or preparing to create opportunities for accessing capital abroad, with a specific focus on the UK and the US. Many members of the DiHubMT community highlighted the need for practical workshops that provide direct access to experts, especially on topics that can be complex to navigate alone.

During this session, participants will receive insights into Malta’s startup ecosystem and its advantages, guidance on navigating Maltese laws for corporate set up and tax system, and practical and legal considerations when preparing for and executing a UK or US flip. This includes understanding regulatory expectations, compliance requirements, and the legal structures that may affect how a business established in Malta can create a new overseas parent company to raise investment.

The session will feature expert insights from Dr Danielle Mercieca, Senior Associate in Corporate & Commercial Law at Chetcuti Cauchi Advocates, and Alexander Lamley from MBM Commercial, who will share their perspectives on legal, regulatory, and strategic considerations for international expansion.

The aim is to equip SMEs with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions and to approach investment opportunities with confidence and clarity.
