Educating Teachers on Navigating Co-Parenting Barriers

This training session equips educators with the skills and strategies necessary to effectively deal with Co-Parenting Barriers while supporting the students’ academic and social emotional success.

Key topics include:

• Educator as Liaison: Guidance on how teachers can serve as neutral, professional intermediaries between parents who share custody but may not communicate effectively with each other. This includes ensuring consistent messaging and advocating for the child's well-being.
• Communicating Across Parenting Styles and Households: Practical strategies for maintaining clear, respectful communication with parents who may have differing expectations, rules, or household structures. Emphasis is placed on consistency and empathy to support the student.
• Understanding Communication Preferences: Teachers learn to identify and honor each parent's preferred method of communication—whether via email, phone calls, or school communication apps—while maintaining equitable access to information.
• Managing Parental Conflict: Approaches for handling situations where parents cannot be in the same room. This includes planning separate meetings, using written updates, and maintaining a non-biased, student-centered approach in all interactions.
