A Play I Wrote in Fourth Grade

Produced for the 10 Minute Play Festival @ Steel Beam Theatre, St. Charles, IL
Inspired by a musical the author actually wrote at age ten, A Play I Wrote in Fourth Grade follows the creative process of a precocious little girl as she writes her magnum opus: a show about a boarding school that is not Hogwarts, a queer-coded heroine who is not like the other girls, and a child-hating headmaster who is not afraid of turning to cannibalism.
We are seeking youth and adult actors to fill seven roles. Auditions will be held at Steel Beam Theatre, 111 W Main St, in St. Charles, IL on September 4th from 7:15-8:30.
DATES
4-5 Regular rehearsals will be held at a TBD location between September 6th and 21st, determined by actor availability.
Tech Rehearsals will be held at Steel Beam September 23rd and 26th, 7-10pm
The play festival, at which the show will be performed, will run September 27th at 7:30pm and September 28th at 2:00pm.
ROLES
CLAIRE - Female Presenting, Playing Age 10, Seeking Actors 8-12
Claire is a spirited fourth grader writing the play we're witnessing. She serves as the narrator, but also interacts with the characters as she writes.
ALLIANCE - Female Presenting, Playing Age 10, Seeking Actors 16+
The unlikely heroine of our story, who is, of course, "not like the other girls." The actor portraying Alliance should be comfortable with a stage kiss in some capacity.
KYLE - Male Presenting, Playing Age 10, Seeking Actors 16+
The cutest boy in the fourth grade. The actor portraying Kyle should be comfortable with a stage kiss in some capacity.
LOUELLA - Female Presenting, Playing Age 10, Seeking Actors 16+
The nicest girl in the fourth grade, and Alliance's best friend. Stage combat experience a plus. Doubles as KYLE'S MOM.
PRISCILLA - Female Presenting, Playing Age 10, Seeking Actors 16+
The meanest girl in the fourth grade, so her femininity is demonized by other characters. Doubles as KYLE'S OTHER MOM.
MR. TEMPTOR - Male Presenting, Playing Age 35-55
The school headmaster, notorious for his hatred of children. It is later discovered that he is a cannibal. Stage combat experience a plus. Doubles as ALLIANCE'S DAD.
TROLLEY LADY - Female Presenting, Playing Age 35-55
She serves snacks on the train to school. Preferably comfortable with British and American Southern dialects. Doubles as ALLIANCE'S MOM.
