These workshops offer an opportunity to practice Restorative Yoga. You will gain some valuable tools to help you relax in your daily life.

Restorative Yoga is the use of props to support the body in positions of ease to facilitate deep relaxation and health. We work very hard in our lives, and while we may sleep, we rarely taken time to rest. Restorative Yoga poses help us learn to relax and rest deeply and completely and involve ‘opening’ rather than ‘stretching’. The session will include long relaxed poses of up to 10-20 minutes; life shifts when we become present. Restorative Yoga is in the learning to be ‘here’ and ‘now’ and at ease with introspection.

WHO?
Restorative Yoga is good for everyone, including people who have little or no experience of Yoga, pregnant and postpartum women.

BENEFITS
Restorative Yoga poses help relieve the effects of chronic stress. Each restorative sequence is designed to move the spine in all directions; Yoga tells us that well-being is enhanced by a healthy spine. All restorative sequences include an inverted pose, which reverses the effects of gravity, returning fluids to the upper body and enhancing heart function. Restorative Yoga stimulates and soothes the organs. Restorative Yoga balances prana (upwards energy) and apana (downwards energy) making sure you are neither overstimulated nor depleted.

*Joining In Person at The Yoga Hall*

If you would like to attend in person at The Yoga Hall, please bring your own eye pillow if you have one. We have generous distancing between mats.

*Joining this Workshop online*

The class will open at 1:45pm and we will start at the usual time of 2pm. The class will end at 4pm and we will keep the room open for afterwards so that we can have our usual (virtual) tea, cookies and check in. Alternatively, if you prefer to go inwards after the class, you can leave the Zoom Room when we finish at 4pm.

The class structure will be the same as it is at The Yoga Hall but we will need you to get creative and make your own props!

To give you an idea, here is an example of the props required for our classes. Most homes will have what you need. We are sure we will be sharing ever evolving ideas of prop-making as time goes on!

1 Bolster: You could roll up some towels or blankets. Or you could use a rolled up camping mat and roll extra towels/blankets around it. Obviously if you have an actual bolster or a bolster shaped cushion from your sofa use that. Yoga bolsters are generally about 72 cm / 28” in circumference and 65 cm / 26” long.

3 Cushions: Ones that don’t collapse too much, ideally.

Strap: You could use a scarf or a belt.

Yoga Mat: You could use a towel, a sheepskin or a camping mat.

2 Eye Pillows: You could use a scarf for the eyes and a sock for raising up C7 at the back of the neck in supported legs up the wall pose.

1 Sturdy, Supportive Blanket: Similar to the white blankets which are at The Yoga Hall. One that doesn’t compress too easily. An old-fashioned, checked picnic blanket would work!

1 Soft, Cosy Blanket: Similar to the blue blankets which are at The Yoga Hall. Fleece is good or anything warm. If you know you get cold easily, have a second one handy.

1 Cork or Foam Brick(s) (optional): You could use a clean brick or anything that sort of shape that you have in the house.

Basic Wooden or Metal Chair: Similar to the ones we have in The Yoga Hall. Or you can use the wall or hold on to something that is the right height.

(If you'd prefer to buy similar props to the ones we use at The Yoga Hall, this is where we get them from:- https://www.yogamatters.com/)

You will also need a clear bit of wall space to put your legs up against. So factor this in to your room plan as you prepare for the class.

Please help us spread the word. Share your experience of our online classes with your friends & family as well as on social media.

When you have purchased this access ticket you will receive an email receipt with a Zoom link to join the class.
Please do not share this link; it is for your use only.
You will need the (free) Zoom App for your device and a (free) Zoom account.
Allow some time to set this up before the class if necessary.

Please position the camera so that the teacher can see your practice, and position your screen so that you can see the teacher. From your App you will be able to toggle between speaker (teacher) view or Gallery view where you will be able to see other participants. You can join with audio only, but we encourage you remain on video feed on so that we keep the sense of community support. Set up your practice somewhere you won’t be disturbed. Clear the space, make it smell nice, dim the lighting. Bring in anything that raises the vibration and makes it really comfortable for you. You may need a blanket to cover yourself at the end. Your audio will remain muted so that unavoidable home noises don’t disturb the class. The teacher may open the audio at the end of the class so you can share your experience or ask a question.

If you have any technical difficulties, please ring Finlay on 07958 927946 (or Laura on 07974 653661 if Finlay is teaching)

Refunds can only be made if technical difficulties at our end mean that no class is broadcast.
