Poetry Reading and Open Mic with Olga Dermott-Bond and Sue Wallace-Shaddad

Olga Dermott-Bond and Sue Wallace-Shaddad will be our guest readers on Friday 20th June in St Michael's Parish Centre, St Albans. Their readings will be followed by an open mic (sign up on the day from 7.00 pm). The event is free and open to all.

Olga is originally from Northern Ireland and now lives in Warwickshire. She has published two pamphlets: "apple, fallen" and "A Sky Full of Strange Specimens". Her first full collection, "Frieze", was featured in "The Guardian". She has won competitions, including the BBC Proms poetry competition, Welshpool and Strokestown International Prize and was highly commended in the Forward Poetry prizes 2024. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, she is currently a managing editor for the Irish poetry journal, "Dodging the Rain", and poet in residence for the Coffin Works Museum in Birmingham.

Sue has published three pamphlets: "A City Waking Up", "Sleeping Under Clouds" and most recently "Once There Was Colour", which contains poems about her family escaping the crisis in Sudan. Her poems have appeared widely in magazines. Following a long international career with the British Council, Sue gained an MA in Writing Poetry from the Poetry School/Newcastle University. She is a Trustee of Suffolk Poetry Society, writes poetry reviews, runs workshops and blogs for The Charles Causley Trust’s The Maker. Her website is:
