We're thrilled to be welcoming John back to 'Joanna's Place' for the third time!!
He told us about the show and its background inspiration:
"When I came upon the Hartlepool Folk Festival maybe 8 years ago, it was by chance. I had been gigging in the library and was looking for somewhere to have breakfast, and came upon the dancers of many folk ‘teams’ on the quay. The music struck up, the dancing began, I stood amongst the assembled, a tear falling and me thinking ‘these are my people!
The show references certain folk themes – Morris Dancing, Mummers and tales of family, in particular wife Mel and the inspirational bane of everyone's life, brother-in-law. alongside pieces from a retired dry-stone wall maker, a singing camel and Florence Bascomb, the American turn-of-the-century geologist who was made to do her university studies behind a screen, as the ones in charge thought her being seen would distract the studying men. It's designed for adults, but not unsuitable for the odd nine-year-old."

The evening will be introduced by Joanna and Leigh McDonald with extracts from their award winning cabaret show The Unbearable Pleasure of Being a Woman.
Fairycroft House has a licensed bar, (doors 6.15pm) and is fully accessible with ample free parking
