Beach Party on CA Ocean Day

Location: The Cactus Garden (Area 5 in Capitol Park)

Join us at lunch to hear from Samantha Murray, Executive Director of the Master of Advanced Studies Program in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation Program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Vice President of the California Fish and Game Commission.

Following Samantha's welcome, attendees will have a chance to talk with ocean and coastal science and policy experts including Deputy State Controller Kristina Kunkel, Ocean Protection Council's Ella McDougall, environmental lawyer Alex Leumer, Senior Marine Scientist Emily Parker from Heal the Bay, Surfrider California Policy Associate Director Jennifer Savage and additional professional advocates.

In addition, lunchtime participants can create ocean artwork with Jessica Knox of Salted Roots. Come transform your favorite ocean memories, animals, poetry, etc., into a contribution to our first-ever Ocean Day book creation. A moment of creativity is the perfect breather between lobby meetings!

Finally, Surfrider Foundation will host a Coastal Act postcard and petition station as the final stop on their Love Your Beach, Protect California's Coast tour. Fill out a postcard to be hand-delivered to your legislator calling for protection of the Coastal Act and support for the California Coastal Commission against federal threats. We all love our beach – and our access to it!
