I am a luthier who has specialised in plucked instruments for early music for over 30 years. My main periods are the late Medieval, Renaissance, early Baroque; apt then, that we shall be in the Mermaid Inn dating from c. 1420. I shall be focusing on instruments of the Medieval /Renaissance. For example...
Luthiery - what is it? What is a lute? What is a gittern? Which woods are used for these and how are they made? Which harps were in use around this time and what are their constructional and design differences?

We'll try and get through as many of the basics as we can and play it a bit by ear regarding time and the number of questions from the audience etc.
