Rumford native whose childhood dream was to have a book on the library shelves will return for Aug 5 reading
RUMFORD — Rumford native and best-selling author Julie Cohen will return for a reading at Rumford Public Library.
Cohen has been writing since she was 11 years old growing up in Western Maine and aspired, she said, to have her book on the shelf of Rumford Library.
Now she has many books on the Rumford Library’s shelves.
Her novels, including her feminist thrillers under the name Mae Cohen, have sold more than a million copies worldwide and have been translated into 17 languages.
Cohen studied English Literature at Brown University in Rhode Island and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, and then did an M.Phil. degree by research on fairies in Victorian and Edwardian children’s literature.
She teaches creative writing workshops for Curtis Brown Creative and Chez Castillon and runs a fiction consultancy and mentoring business, with many clients producing best-selling publications. She founded the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s Rainbow Chapter for LGBTQIA+ writers, and was a winner of the RNA’s Inclusion Award for championing diversity in romantic fiction. She is the Patron of local literacy charity ABC to Read, which helps children in Berkshire, England, primary schools learn to read. This fall, she will pursue a PhD by Published Works at the University of Reading.
Cohen lives in Berkshire with her teenager and dog, and every year, she brings a copy of her latest book for the shelves at Rumford Public Library.
The Friends of Rumford Public Library will host Cohen for a reading Tuesday, Aug. 5, in the Public Room at the Library, 56 Rumford Ave. The reading will be free and open to the public, and donations will support the Friends and its mission to support the library.
