New Opportunities with the U.S. International Development Finance Corp.

Special luncheon program sponsored by the International Trade Association of Greater Chicago. Presentation by Alison J. Germak, Deputy Vice President, Office of Health & Agribusiness, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The DFC was established in 2019 as a successor to the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). Ms. Germak will describe how DFC partners with companies to mobilize capital for strategic investments across the world to foster economic development, support U.S. interests, and deliver returns to American taxpayers.

In the Office of Health & Agribusiness, Ms. Germak supports the provision of debt and equity funding to investments in healthcare services, infrastructure, supply chains, and technology to foster healthy communities and contain disease outbreaks. She also supports investments that expand food production and support businesses that are modernizing supply chains with more efficient ways to produce, store, and transport food.

Ms. Germak’s 20-year career at DFC and its predecessor organization, OPIC, has spanned several positions, including deputy head of the Office of Development Credit, Director of Corporate Development, and business development and public engagement roles. In addition to cultivating successful investments across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, Ms. Germak was responsible for leading several agency-wide initiatives in support of the U.S. small business communities that OPIC served. She additionally oversaw the agency’s Innovative Financial Intermediaries Program, mobilizing an estimated $1 billion in capital for impact finance and blended capital vehicles in developing and frontier markets.
